Birthday weekend blowout!

Contrary to the previous blog about my birthday anxieties, I did get over them in time to have a great weekend! I'm warning you now that this will be quite long (that's what she said) and quite picture heavy. Consider it my birthday gift to you. You're welcome.

A few months ago I realized that my birthday coincided with the H4 Summer Rendezvous. We were to go camping up at Heber Valley Camp. I debated for a long time whether to go or not. It was either go and spend my birthday with a bunch of people I don't know, or stay home alone and do nothing. Since my friends were going, I decided to go too.
                                                                     Cool girls from my ward
I'm so glad I did! I had a great time and met so many new people! There were great workshops and lessons. I learned a lot and had a ton of fun! Thursday at dinner my friend Heather grabbed the microphone and made everyone sing 'Happy Birthday'. There were about 300 people there, singing to me.  I was torn between knowing that I should be embarrassed and thinking how awesome it was that so many people were looking at me.  That's the Leo actress part of me coming out!  Then I was forced (through threats of bodily harm) to wear a tiara until at least midnight. I complied and found out that my head is significantly smaller than a childs and the tiara hurt quite a bit and gave me a headache. One glare from D'Nell and it was back on though.

                                                                                                                                                 Heather, Me & Erin

Me, D'Nell & my  bday bling

Me & Vincent.  He was baptized the next day.  Yeah!

Nic & I were bus buddies on the way to the camp.  He knows every word to
'The Mormon Rap' and sang the entire thing to me, about 2 inches from my face.

Zito & I chillin.  You can tell she's jealous of the tiara!
I did think that I would die on the hike. Pretty sure everyone in my group was extremely athletic. Then there's me and my short little legs. I was practically running to keep up with them. It was really pretty when we got to the top of the mountain though.
                                                                                                                            Top of the hike
Me climbing a tree swingy thing.

We did a challenge course and had to do all these team building activities. My group was really fun and I ended up being a lot more daring than I usually am.

By Saturday I was really ready to come home. There were a few more fun-tivities planned, but I kinda just chilled in the cabin for some of them. I don't think that I slept more than 6 hours the ENTIRE time we were there! That's in 2 nights! There were 12 people in our cabin and the most uncomfortable bunks ever and people were loud and I just wanted to punch them. Especially when their cell phone alarms went off at 5 in the morning (which is about 20 minutes after I fell asleep) Grrrr!!!

I made it home on Saturday in just enough time to shower and get ready for my party. I love baseball and fireworks, so when I found out that the Bees were playing and having a firework show- I knew what my party would be. It was kinda funny because I invited quite a few boys, thinking that they would be all about it. I mean, it's a sporting event. No boys ended up coming! I guess I have completely lost my feminine charm! So, me and 10 of my friends went. We had a blast! The Bees won. I started a sing-a-long in our section when they were playing Bon Jovi over the sound system. (Do you expect anything else from me?) The fireworks started and it was AMAZING!!!!!!! I seriously can't express how much I love fireworks! I guess I'm just a pyro at heart.

After the game Heather, Tiffany and I met up with Brad and Greg for ice cream. I didn't get any pictures though. Next time? Heather let her true colors show when she lied about the guy behind us wanting her phone number. She was actually writing notes to the waitress to try to get my dessert for free. You would think it was a lot funnier if you say the guy that she was claiming to flirt with. Imagine the Unibomber with a little more craziness. At this point I had been awake for about 21 hours. I had about a gallon of Diet Coke keeping me awake. I barely made it home and crashed into bed.

On Sunday I went to a potluck at Brad's house. It was really fun, although the power was out and the entire house turned into a sauna. Again, I met some new people and saw some old friends. A few of my friends from my ward in college were there- small world.

So, that was my exhausting and fun weekend. I feel oddly empowered being 30 now. I have had a great time so far and this is going to be the best year of my life- if I have anything to do about it!

Age is nothing but a number, right?

I apologize for the lack of posts for the last little while.  There have been a lot of things going on in my life and my head.  I didn't want to put anything out there in the blog-o-sphere until I had somewhat organized and controlled my thoughts.  Not that they were immoral or murderous thoughts.... anyway...

The thing that I can't get out of my head lately is this one small fact.  I turn 30 tomorrow.  Ugh.  I thought that it would be easy.  All of my friends are already 30 or older and now I can be in their little club.  But no- starting yesterday, I've been FREAKING OUT!!!  I'm trying to think positive about what I have already accomplished in my life but there is A LOT of things I wanted to do before this milestone/gravestone hit.  I do have some things in the works.  I am going to Europe in the spring, so I can cross that off my list.  I don't want this to be a pity party for myself because I am actually really happy with where I am in my life and the opportunities I've had.

I went shopping yesterday and realized that I am already acting and thinking like an old person.  That scared the living crap out of me and set off this whole thing.  It was all the teenagers riding their skateboards too close to my car, yelling across the food court, the music was loud in the stores and I just wanted nothing more than to leave.  It's official- I'm an old lady.

There's pretty much nothing I can say except this- getting older sucks.
